Mo’ne Davis is an American baseball player who set a couple of Little League World Series’ records. And due to her amazing athletic success, particularly as a female, she has gone on to achieve a celebrity-like status.
Family Life
Her parents are named Lakeisha McLean and Lamar Davis. She was raised by her mom and her stepdad, Mark Williams.
Achievements
She appeared on the cover of the 25 August 2014 edition of “Sports Illustrated”. In doing so she set a record by becoming the first active Little League player to ever grace the cover of a major sports’ magazine in the U.S.
The week prior, on 15 August 2014, she pitched a baseball shutout during the Little League World Series. This made her the first female pitcher to not only win the event but also the first to actually pitch a shutout.
Also during that same year, her jersey was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Additionally, “Time” magazine went on to place her among “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014”.
"Marie Claire" magazine also named her success as one of “The 8 Greatest Moments for Women in Sports”.
In 2015, Davis took home an ESPY Award in the category of Best Breakthrough Athlete.
Also in 2015, she co-authored a book about her life entitled “Mo’ne Davis: Remember My Name”.
Even prior to her success in 2015, in 2014 she was named the Sports Illustrated SportsKid of the Year.
Trivia
She eventually went on to attend Hampton University in 2018, where she has featured as a softball player for the school’s team.
As of May 2020 Davis has approximately 250,000 followers on Instagram.
There is a special type of athletic bra which is named after her.
