About Mitch Daniels
Mitch Daniels started his political career in the late 1960s when he joined the campaign team of Richard Lugar. In 1976, after Lugar had been voted into the United States Senate, Daniels was appointed to the position of Chief of Staff.
Positions
As a member of the Republican Party, he became the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s executive director in 1983. He later joined pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly and Company and became the head of the North American Pharmaceutical Operations in 1993.
After holding a number of positions, he was sent to the United States Office of Management and Budget in 2001 to serve as its director. He contested in the Indiana gubernatorial election and was sworn-in as the governor of the state in 2005. His first tenure came to an end in 2008 but his mandate was renewed that same year.
Years after leaving office as the Governor of Indiana, he was made the president of the famous Purdue University.
Family
Mitch was privileged to spend his early years with his parents Mitchell Elias Daniels and Dorothy Mae Wilkes. His 1978 marriage to Cheri Herman came to an end in 1993. The couple reunited four years later and together they have raised four kids.
Education
He attended North Central High School and continued at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. The politician later moved to Georgetown University Law Center.
Decorations
Daniels received the Order of the Rising Sun, 2nd Class, Gold and Silver Star award in 2017. His alma mater, Princeton University, honored him with the Woodrow Wilson Award.
Trivia
He authored and published many books including “Keeping the Republic: Saving America by Trusting Americans” and “Aiming Higher: Words That Changed a State”.
