About Mirza Ghulam Ahmad
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is widely known as the originator of Islam’s Ahmadiyya movement. In 1888, he claimed that he had been ordained by God and urged his followers to show their commitment to the newly found faith.
He was also known as the self-acclaimed Mahdi and Messiah during the 14th Century. He also refuted the Biblical and Islamic accounts of the death of Jesus, arguing that he died a natural death. Ahmad also claimed that he was sent to reform the Islamic religion.
Bibliography
In order to spread his beliefs, the Indian published more than 90 books. His work covered a wide range of topics including religion and other social issues. Some of his popular writings were titled “Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya” series, “Al-Wasiyyat” and “Ăsmani Faisla”.
Family
He married his first wife Hurmat Bibi in 1852 before becoming the husband of Nusrat Jahan Begum in 1884. He was blessed with 12 kids from the two marriages. His children included religious scholar Mirza Bashir Ahmad, and Mirza Basheer-ud-Din Mahmood Ahmad, who became the second leader of his father’s movement.
Trivia
He was sued by Henry Martyn Clark, a Christian preacher, in 1897 for attempted murder.
