Miriam A. Ferguson was a famous American politician who in 1925 became the first female to serve as Texas State’s governor. Her tenure came to an end two years later but came back to office in 1933. Before taking over the governorship, she served as the First Lady of the state due to her marriage to fellow politician James E. Ferguson.
During her tenure as a governor, she promoted both the corporate income and state sales taxes. She also pushed for bilingualism in schools in the state. After signing the Texas House Bill 194 in 1933, she turned the University of Houston into a 4-year institution.

She had two kids with James named Dorrace Watt Ferguson, and Ouida Wallace Ferguson.
Education
She was a student of Salado College. The politician also studied at Baylor Female College.
Death
Ferguson suffered from heart failure which caused her demise in 1961.
