About Mike Donovan
1998 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, Mike Donovan, was an American boxer who pioneered the bare-knuckle era of the middleweight. Donovan's Orthodox boxing style led to his achievement of more than 20 career wins.
Career
The boxer's career was highlighted by a number of popular fights which threw him into the spotlight. His fight with America's first heavyweight champion of gloved boxing, John Lawrence Sullivan was one for the history books. He also fought American boxer, John Shanssey in 1968 which turned out to be a controversial result as the match was refereed by 21-year-old Wyatt Ear.
Personal Life
The boxer married Cecilia Donovan until he died from pneumonia in 1918.
