About Miguel Alemán Valdés
The Mexico Commission for National Tourism was founded by Miguel Aleman Valdes, who also served as president of Mexico from 1946 until 1952. Valdes’ government was the first civilian administration following a succession of revolutionary generals. Although his government was accused of widespread bribery and corruption, there was some amount of economic growth under his watch.
Personal Life
He was born in Veracruz into a revolutionary family. He obtained a law degree from the National University of Mexico after graduating from the National Preparatory School.
Politics
As a mediator in management negotiations, he joined the Federal Board of Conciliation and Arbitration in 1930. He was a representative of the Federal district on the Superior Tribunal. Later, he won positions as governor and senator in Veracruz, his home state.
After overseeing Manuel Vila Camacho's nationwide presidential campaign, he served as Secretary of the Interior (Gobernación) from 1940 - 1945.
In 1946, he was officially nominated as a presidential candidate by the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (Revolutionary Institutional Party), and he handily defeated Ezequiel Padilla.
Infrastructural developments like hydroelectric dams, the airport in Mexico City, University City, new port facilities, and many others were made during his presidential term to improve the quality of life of Mexicans.
