About Michelle Wie
Michelle Sung Wie West was only 10 years old when she qualified for the United States Golf Association (USGA)’s amateur championship. She had been playing the sport since she was four years old. In 2003, she became the youngest winner of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links at 13 years old. At barely 16, she went professional and made her debut in the LPGA Samsung World Championship in 2005. In 2014, she won the U.S. Women’s Open.
Family Life
Her parents emigrated from South Korea in the 1980s. She became the wife of the Director of Basketball Operations for the Golden State Warriors basketball team, Jonnie West in 2019. They welcomed a daughter in 2020.
Achievements
She received the 2004 Laureus World Newcomer of the Year award and the 2014 Rolex Annika Major Award.
Trivia
Her 2007 wrist injury caused controversy when she was questioned by other golfers who felt it had been fabricated.
