Michaëlle Jean started her career as a journalist. She was first hired by Radio-Canada where she worked as a broadcaster and reporter. In 1995, she joined Réseau de l'information and anchored a number of shows such as “Horizons francophones” and “Le Monde ce soir”. After four years, she moved to CBC Newsworld where she hosted shows like “Rough Cuts” and “The Passionate Eye”.
Political career
Jean’s television career earned her lots of fame. Due to that, Queen Elizabeth II appointed her as Canada’s Governor General in 2005. She served in that position for five years and helped to build the country’s relationships with other nations.
In 2015, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie chose her as their Secretary-General.
Personal Life
She was born to Haitian parents and has been married to Jean-Daniel Lafond. They have an adopted daughter named Marie-Éden.
Education
She was a student of the University of Montreal.
Decorations
This Canadian politician has received many honors including the Canada Media Award from the Human Rights League, the City of Montreal Citizen of Honour, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
