About Michael Nyman
He is a well renowned musician who has made great strides in the world of music as a musicologist, pianist, composer and librettist.
Personal Life
His parents gave him the name Michael Laurence Nyman when he was born. His family was Jewish and enrolled him in Sir George Monoux Grammar School. He continued his education at King’s College in London before continuing at Royal Academy of Music. He married Aet Nyman and they had two daughters.
Career
In 1976, he worked on the film score of “Keep It Up Downstairs” and worked on the soundtrack of “Man with a Movie Camera” which was a silent film. He is the producer of the opera “Facing Goya”, “Love Counts” and “Man and Boy: Dada”. He has worked on over a hundred compositions and productions among other things.
Achievement
In the 2008 Birthday Honours, he received the appointment to be Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 2015, during the 6th edition of the Odessa International Film Festival, he received the Golden Duke for Lifetime Achievement award.
