About Michael Johnson
Regarded as one of the greatest sprinters of all-time, American athlete Michael Johnson started gaining international recognition in 1991 when he won his first World Championship gold medal. He was one of the dominating personalities in track and field during the 1990s in which he won four gold medals at the Olympic Games.
Participating in the 100, 200, and 400 meter events, Johnson won a total of eight gold medals at the World Championships. At a stage in his career, he held the Olympic and world records in both the 200 and 400 meters race.
Personal Life
In 2000, he and Kerry D'Oyen had a son called Sebastian. After some years, the couple divorced and he later married Armine Shamiryan.
Education
During his time at Baylor University, he was a member of their athletics team.
Achievements
In 1996 and 1999, Johnson was named the “World Athlete of the Year” by the IAAF. In 2000, he won his fourth Best Male Track Athlete ESPY Award. Four years later, he was inducted into the U.S. Track and Field Hall of Fame.
Trivia
During the 2008 Olympic Games, he worked with the BBC as a commentator.
He also appeared on the game show “The Celebrity Apprentice” in 2010.
