About Melanie Klein
Melanie Klein was known for her numerous theories which focused on the development of children. She’s said to be the first person to deploy traditional psychoanalysis in dealing with children. During her active days, the Austrian-born British psychoanalyst wrote many books with the most popular ones titled “Love, Guilt and Reparation: And Other Works” and “Narrative of a Child Analysis”.
Contributing to the “Splitting” theory, Klein was described as one of the most influential psychoanalysts of all-time.
Family
Her maiden name was Melanie Reizes and was one of the children of Libussa and Moriz Reizes. She had three siblings and got married to Arthur Klein in 1903. Their two children were Erich and Hans.
Facts
Over the years, her works have influenced some well-known scholars like Otto F. Kernberg and Jacques Lacan.
She inspired Nicholas Wright’s 1988 play titled “Mrs. Klein”.
