About Mehmed VI
Mehmed VI was the last person to serve as the Ottoman Empire’s Sultan before its dissolution in 1923.
Leadership
Born into the noble House of Osman, he became the next in line to ascend the throne in 1916 following the death of Şehzade Yusuf Izzeddin. He succeeded his brother Mehmed V two years later.
His tenure was disturbed by the First World War. He was one of the signatories of the Treaty of Sèvres in 1920. Later that year, the Turkish Grand National Assembly was formed which denounced the authority of the Sultan. He went into exile in 1922 after stepping down from his position.
Family
He was one of the children of Abdulmejid I and Gülüstü Hanım. His first marriage was to Nazikeda Kadın which ended in 1926. He was married five times. Until his death, he was married to Nevzad Hanım. He had four kids including Sabiha Sultan, Şehzade Mehmed Ertuğrul and Ulviye Sultan.
Honors
Some of her medals were the Order of Glory, Order of the Medjidie and the Order of Osmanieh.
