About MC Jin
Born Jin Au-Yeung, but popularly called MC Jin, he is a Chinese-American rapper, songwriter, comedian, and actor. Jin is best known for being the first Chinese-American solo rapper signed by a major USA record label.
Background & Early Life
He was born in Miami, Florida. Jin grew up in Miami and schooled at the John F. Kennedy Middle School and North Miami Beach Senior High School. After graduating high school in 2000, he decided not to continue to college but pursue his dream career as a rapper.
Career
Jim began his career as a battle rapper in New York City. In 2002, he competed in BET’s rap battle program, Freestyle Friday. Jin won seven battles consecutively and was made a Freestyle Friday Hall of Famer. During the night of his induction ceremony, he stated that the Ruff Ryders Entertainment label had signed him.
He released his first single, “Learn Chinese,” with Ruff Ryders in 2003. The song featured award-winning rapper Wyclef Jean. Jin’s debut album, “The Rest is History,” peaked at 54 on the Billboard 200 chart. He has since collaborated with several top industry players and released numerous albums, EPs, and singles.
Personal life
Jin became a Christian in 2008 after Pastor Jaeson Ma converted him. He has since released several gospel inclined songs.
He married Carol in February 2011.
