About Mary Kom
Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is the full name of one of India's greatest females. She is an amateur boxer and a member of the Indian Parliament.
Early life
Kim grew up in India, specifically Kangathei village, Moirang Lamkhai. She is an alumnus of Churachandpur College.
During her years in school, she was an all-round athlete competing in almost all sporting disciplines. However, after being inspired by Dingko Singh, she decided to focus on only boxing in 2000. She won the state boxing championship in the same year.
Boxing Honors
As of 2021, she held the record for most female wins at the World Amateur Boxing Championship, winning it six times. In addition, she was the only boxer to have won eight medals at the World Championship.
In 2014, she became India's first female boxer to win gold at the Asian Games. She repeated the same feat at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Again as of 2021, she was the only boxer in Asian boxing history to win the Asian Amateur Boxing Champion six times.
Politics
In April 2016, India’s President nominated her as a Rajya Sabha member in the Indian Parliament. In 2017, she also served as a national boxing observer for India's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
