About Marvin Minsky
American scientist Marvin Minsky is best known as one of the founders of the AI laboratory in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Throughout his career, he contributed immensely to the study of artificial intelligence and went on to publish many books including “The Society of Mind” and “The Emotion Machine: Commonsense Thinking, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of the Human Mind”.
As a computer scientist, he developed many devices including the head-mounted display in 1963. He also invented the SNARC learning machine and the first edition of the Logo "turtle".
Family
His parents were simply called Fannie and Henry. In 1952, he married Gloria Rudisch and together they raised three children.
Education
From Ethical Culture Fieldston School, he enrolled at Bronx High School of Science before attending Harvard University. He did his PhD program at Princeton University.
Awards
Some of his many accolades were the Turing Award, IJCAI Award for Research Excellence and the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award.
Trivia
He served as an advisor on the film titled “2001: A Space Odyssey”.
In 2002, Jeffrey Epstein offered him a $100,000 grant for his research.
