About Martin Van Buren
Martin Van Buren was an American politician best known for being the eight President of the United States from March 4, 1837 to March 4, 1841 and for being the third sitting U.S. Vice President to be elected straight to the Presidency.
Career
He was elected to the Senate in 1821. From 1829 to 1831, he served as the tenth Secretary of State. He became the 8th Vice President of the United States under President Andrew Jackson and served from 1833 to 1837 before finally being elected President of the United States.
Family Life
He was married to Hannah Hoes from 1807 until her death in 1819. He had five children with Hannah. After Hannah's death, he never remarried.
