Martin St. Louis is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey legend. He is a hockey Hall of Famer and had one of the best careers in the NHL, which spanned from 1998 to 2015.
Background & Early Career
He hails from Laval, Quebec. From 1992 to 1993, he played in the Central Junior Hockey League (CJHL) with Hawkesbury Hawks.
College Career
The University of Vermont is his alma mater. He was an excellent college player for Vermont Catamounts. He won the 1995 East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) award for best player of the year and earned National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and ECAC all-American honors for three seasons.
Professional Career Highlights
In 1997, he signed a two-year deal with the Cleveland Lumberjacks, who played in the International Hockey League (IHL). After playing one season at Cleveland, Calgary Flames signed him in February 1998, and he made his debut in the NHL in October 1998.
His best career years were at Tampa Bay Lightning from 2000 to 20014. He won the "Lester B. Pearson Award," "Hart Memorial Trophy," "Art Ross Trophy," and "Lady Byng Memorial Trophy" during those years. In addition, he was a five-time NHL All-Star Team member.
He was part of Canada's Hockey teams that won gold during the 2014 Winter Games and came first at the World Cup of Hockey in 2004.
