About Marshall Taylor
Marshall Walter "Major" Taylor, an American cyclist, was the world's first black sports superstar. He won the international cycling title in 1899, the American sprint title in 1900, and had made other track cycling records.

He was the second Black athlete to win a world title in any sport.
Early Life & Cycling
A bicycle store owner recruited him to execute bicycle stunts in front of the Hay and Willits bicycle shop.
He began amateur racing in races in Indianapolis and other places. He continued to work in the bike business until "Birdie" Munger helped him to his first professional racing victory in 1896. Despite constant bureaucracy and physical opposition, he won his first national title two years later and became global champion in 1899 and American sprint champion in 1899 and 1900.
Trivia
The cyclist had a daughter with Daisy Morris.
He was buried in a pauper's tomb and reburied in 1948.
