About Mark David Chapman
Mark David Chapman is most notoriously known as the murderer of The Beatles’ John Lennon, shooting the legendary musician outside an apartment building in New York in 1980. Chapman used to be an avid fan of the Beatles, especially John Lennon, but was angered when Lennon remarked during an interview in 1966 that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus, which Chapman took as a blasphemy to his Christian faith. Chapman became so obsessed with the idea to kill Lennon that he even told his wife about it.
The Catcher in the Rye
After killing Lennon, Chapman reportedly still remained at the crime scene, reading the 1951 novel by J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye. He cited that it was one of the influences that led to his act and killing Lennon was his way to get people to read the book.
