About Mario Andretti
Mario Gabriele Andretti is a retired American motorsport superstar. His career was one of the best for a racing driver in America’s history. As of 2020, he was the only racer to be named best United States driver in three decades – 1984, 1978, and 1967.
Early life
At age five, along with his twin brother Aldo, they often raced their hand-made wooden cars on the streets of their neighborhood. Later, a garage company hired them to park vehicles.
Andretti was thirteen years old when he had his debut racing experience in the Formula Junior League, Italy.
Career Highlights & Records
He won four IndyCar championships, the IROC VI competition, and the Formula One World Championship in 1978. In addition, he was also a winner of several sprint car racing and midget car racing.
As of October 2021, he remained the only driver in motorsport history to win the Daytona 500, the Formula 1 World Championship, and the Indianapolis 500. In addition, he is among the only three drivers who have won major racing competitions on pave ovals, dirt tracks, and road courses in a single season. He also won 109 major circuit races.
