The decision by Mariano Rivera to give up on the fishing trade, which had been in his family for years paid off when he eventually became a Major League Baseball (MLB) star. The Panamanian-American retired baseball player was recruited by a scout for the New York Yankees in 1990 and debuted in the MLB five years later. He played for the team as a relief pitcher for 19 seasons. He is known for his record-setting and breaking performances during his playing years.
Family Life
He is he eldest son of Delia Jiron and Mariano Rivera Palacios. He grew up in Puerto Caimito, a fishing village, with an elder sister and two brothers. He has been married to a woman named Clara, who is also from Panama, since 1991. They have three sons together.
Achievements
In the course of his career, he featured in the annual All-Star game thirteen times. He was also the 1999 World Series’ “Most Valuable Player” and won the series five times with the New York Yankees.
