Marco Polo was an Italian merchant and explorer.
His Highlights/Legacy
He became famous through "The Travels of Marco Polo", a travelogue written by Rustichello da Pisa from stories told by him. Along with his father and his uncle, Niccolò Polo and Maffeo Polo, they made a journey to Asia. They returned after 24 years and they found Venice at war with Genoa. He was imprisoned and told his stories to his cellmate. He was finally released in 1299. His stories inspired explorer Christopher Columbus.
