About Marcel Moyse
During the 1900s, French flutist Marcel Moyse established himself as one of the top musicians in his native country. He started gaining international fame in 1913 when he toured many states in the U.S. Moyse performed with many orchestras including the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. In 1934, he started performing with his own group known as the Moyse Trio.
Other works
Moyse also worked as a music teacher. He goes into the history books as one of the founders of the Marlboro Music School. He also taught at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal in Canada.
He went ahead to publish many books with some titled “Études et éxercises technique” and “Tone Development Through Interpretation”.
Family
He spent most of his childhood with his uncle Joseph Moyse. In 1912, he became the husband of Celine Gautreau after the two exchanged the marriage vow.
Education
Moyse had his training at the Paris Conservatory.
Honors
At the peak of his career, he was decorated with the Legion of Honour accolade.
Trivia
A group known as the Marcel Moyse Society has been established in the United States to celebrate his achievements.
He studied under Paul Taffanel, Philippe Gaubert, and Adolphe Hennebains.
