Manu Dibango was a Cameroonian musician and songwriter who was most proficient on the saxophone as well as vibraphone. His professional career dates back to the 1960s. And his signature work is a 1972 track entitled “Soul Makossa”, which has been heavily sampled by other musicians.

The ending of Michael Jackson’s 1983 hit “Wanna Be Startin' Something” was derived from “Soul Makossa”.
In 2009 he sued both Michael Jackson and Rihanna. He sued Michael for utilizing lyrics from “Soul Makossa” without permission and then Rihanna for sampling Jackson’s usage herself on her 2007 track “Don’t Stop the Music”.
He passed away after contracting the coronavirus.
