The actress was born to Frances Ellen Thornley and Jules Fontanne. She grew up with a flair for acting and in no time began to tour with Ellen Terry, who was a leading actress during the 1930s.
Career
Fontanne began her acting career during her tour. Between 1905 and 1916, she had already made appearances at the Theatre Royal in 1905. She later delved into Broadway in 1918 and acted in productions such as “The Stage". Her significant lead role in the comedy movie “Dulcy”, which was written by George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly.
The American also appeared in “Love In Idleness" in 1946 and "The Guardsman" in 1945.
Personal Life
The actress married American filmmaker Alfred Lunt from 1922 to 1977. Six years after the death of Lunt, the actress passed away, aged 95.
