About Luigi Pirandello
Luigi Pirandello was a renowned Italian writer whose works included novels, plays, short stories and poems. Throughout his career which lasted for four decades, Pirandello also wrote many films which were popular during the 1920 and 30s.
His 1904 novel titled “Il fu Mattia Pascal (The Late Mattia Pascal)” has been described by many critics as his most popular work. He also wrote the 1923 play entitled “The Man with the Flower in His Mouth (L'uomo dal fiore in bocca)”.
He wrote about forty stage plays and over a hundred short stories.
Family
He was raised by his parents Caterina Ricci Gramitto and Stefano Pirandello. He had three children with Maria Antonietta Portulano named Rosalia, Stefano and Italian painter Fausto.
Education
Pirandello briefly studied at the University of Rome before moving to the University of Bonn.
Awards
The writer was the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1934.
Trivia
He donated his Nobel Prize during the "Gold to the Fatherland" campaign.
