Louis XIV of France was a French King. He was King of France from 1643 to 1715. This 72-year reign remains the longest of any European monarch in the history of the continent. He also became very popular and rich during these years, which endured until the French Revolution.

His Personal Life

He was married to Maria Theresa of Spain and they had 6 children. He had many mistresses and at least 14 illegitimate children. He was succeeded by his great-grandson, Louis XV, who at that time was 5 years old, because all of his heirs predeceased him. He died of gangrene.
