About Louis de Funès
Regarded by many as France’s favourite actor, Louis de Funès had a very prolific acting career, which lasted for close to four decades. He got his start as a theatre actor and went on to make his first screen appearance in the 1945 film, “La Tentation de Barbizon”.
With over 150 film roles to his credit, he became a household name through films such as the “Gendarme” series, “Pouic-Pouic”, “La Grande Vadrouille” and “Le Petit Baigneur”.
Outside of France, he was a star in countries such as Italy, Russia, Germany, Austria, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, Mauritius, Turkey and Albania.
Family Life
His parents had immigrated to France from Spain in order to get married. From 1943 until he passed away, he was married to Jeanne Barthelémy de Maupassant, who was a secretary at a music school he attended. They were parents to actor Olivier and Patrick, a doctor.
Achievements
He was given an Honorary César award in 1980.
Death
He died on January 27, 1983 from a heart attack.
