About Louis Althusser
After returning to France from Germany as a war prisoner, Louis Althusser became a member of Parti communiste français, also known as the French Communist Party. He later became a professor at his alma mater, École Normale Supérieure.
Career highlights
As a philosopher, Althusser is known for his support for Marxism. Most of his works were to counter attacks on the school of thoughts. He documented most of his ideas with the well-known ones titled “For Marx” and “Reading Capital”.

Althusser was born in Algeria to Charles-Joseph Althusser and Lucienne Marthe Berger. He was married to Hélène Rytmann, a French sociologist, but the union ended when he strangled her to death during a time he was suffering from mental illness.
