About Lomana LuaLua
Lomana LuaLua signed for Colchester United in 1998 following an impressive display in a college soccer game. Two years later, he joined Newcastle United in a deal believed to be in the region of €3.7 million. The Congolese striker played over 60 official matches for the team in which he netted nine times.
Before retiring, he played for other renowned teams across the globe including Olympiacos in Greece, Qatar’s Al-Arabi, and Portsmouth in England.
International career
Following his impressive performances at club level, LuaLua was called into the senior national team of DR Congo in 2002. He went on to earn 31 caps for his country and scored seven goals. He played for his team in a number of Africa Cup of Nations competitions.
Personal Life
He’s the cousin of soccer stars Yannick Bolasie and Trésor Kandol. Kazenga, his brother, is also a well-known soccer player.
Fun Facts
LuaLua is best known for his backflip goal celebrations.
He was given a £175 fine in 2003 after he was found guilty of watching an unlicensed television in England.
In 2006, he created the LuaLua Foundation which was aimed at taking care of orphans.
