About Lloyd Waner
1967 Hall of Fame inductee Lloyd James Waner was a Major League Baseball (MLB) center fielder. Regardless of his small stature, the baseball player was very instrumental in the Pittsburgh Pirates team, where he became an All-Star and was also inducted into the Pirates Hall of Fame.
Early Life
The baseball player graduated from McLoud High School and later enrolled at East Central State University. He completed less than 4 semesters before he went full-time as a professional baseball player.
Career
Waner made his professional debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1927. He played with the team for 14 years before moving on to other teams such as Boston Braves and Cincinnati Reds in 1941. Philadelphia Phillies was his next stop in 1942, and then he left to join Brooklyn Dodgers two years later. He finally returned to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1944. The sportsman hung up his boots in 1945.
Personal Life
Waner was married to his wife, Frances, up until his death in 1982. The former baseball player died as a result of complications related to emphysema. He was survived by two children.
