About Liu Xiaobo
Liu Xiaobo was a professor of literature, human rights activist, Chinese writer, and philosopher. He is popularly known for his many outspoken literary critiques of the Chinese government. He played an important role in the many campaigns to end the one-party and Communist regime in China. During the 1980s, he became very famous when his literary critiques of Chinese culture, democracy, and human rights became popular among many Chinese literary circles. Liu then became a professor of literature at the Beijing Normal University and a researcher at many other international universities.
Achievements
While in prison in 2010, Liu received the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize award in honor of his widespread, non-violent struggles and protests for Chinese citizens to enjoy their basic human rights in the country. The award made him the third person to receive a Nobel Peace Prize in prison or police custody.
Personal life
Liu Xiaobo was granted medical parole in 2017 and sadly passed away on July 13, 2017, after battling liver cancer.
Trivia
He was imprisoned for his comments and participation in campaigns, protests, and associations against the Chinese communist system and the struggle for fundamental human rights. As a result, he is China’s most famous political dissident and convict.
