About Lin Dan
Lin Dan is a famous Chinese retired professional badminton superstar. A five-time World champion with back-to-back gold medals at the Olympic Games, and many other major titles, he is widely regarded as the world’s all-time greatest badminton player. He is known in the media space as “Super Dan.”
Background & Early Career
He is a native of Longyan, Fujian, China. In 2000 at age 17, he won the gold medal for the singles and team events of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships. He also won gold as a member of the Chinese Badminton team during the 2000 World Junior Championships.
Major Career Honors & Awards
By age 28, he had successfully completed what is known in the Badminton world as the “Super Grand Slam.” Thus, he had won all the nine significant titles of badminton sports, including gold medals at the Olympic Games, World Championship, Thomas Cup, World Cup, All England Open, Asian Games, Asian Championships, Sudirman Cup, and Super Series Masters Finals.
He was the first badminton player to win back-to-back gold medals at the Olympics games, winning the 2008 and 2012 editions.
In 2010, the Chinese state-own station “China Central Television” named him as the country’s sports personality of the year.
Marriage
He got married to retired female badminton superstar Xie Xingfang on December 13, 2010.
