About Lillian Gish
Lillian was an American actress, director and writer who was nicknamed the "First Lady of American Cinema" for her enormous contribution to the acting industry.
She was discovered by D.W Griffith at the age of 6. She acted on stage for 10 years before proceeding to work with Griffith in films like "The Unseen" (1912), "The One She Loved"(1912)and "My Baby" (1912).
Lillian ended her work with Griffith in 1925, and signed with MGM - which ended in 1928 after featuring in three films.
Family Life
Her father was James Gish, and her mother, Mary Robinson McConnell was also an actress. Her younger sister, Dorothy was an actress as well.
Achievements
She was nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Supporting Actress" for her role in "Duel in the Sun" (1946).
She was a recipient of the George Eastman Award.
She was given an Academy Honorary Award, and an AFI Life Achievement Award in 1971 and 1984 respectively.
