About Lev Yashin
Lev Yashin is considered by many soccer pundits and fans as the all-time greatest goalkeeper in the sport’s history. The Soviet player spent the entirety of his two-decade career (1950-1970) with Dynamo Moscow. He also represented the Soviet Union in international matches and tournaments from 1954 to 1970. His positioning and acrobatic reflex saves were among the memorable aspects of his goalkeeping.
Family Life
He was raised in an industrial working family in Moscow. He was married to Valentina Timofeyevna with whom he had two daughters: Elena and Irina.
Achievements
He holds the record for the highest number of penalties saved by any goalkeeper in the history of soccer (150). He was the recipient of the 1963 Ballon d’Or, which makes him the only goalkeeper to receive the award.
Death
He died from stomach cancer on March 20, 1990.
