Leona Helmsley was nicknamed “Queen of Mean” as a result of having gained notoriety for her ruthless character both professionally and in private. The American businesswoman found success as a condominium broker before joining Brown Harris Stevens, a real estate brokerage firm owned by her would-be third husband Harry Helmsley as a senior vice president.

Her birth name, Lena Mindy Rosenthal, was given by her Polish-Jewish immigrant parents Morris Rosenthal and Ida Popkin. She had one son, Jay from her first marriage to Leo Panzirer, a lawyer. Jay died in 1982 at 42 years old from heart failure and Helmsley infamously served his widow, Mimi with an eviction notice after his death. She was also married and divorced two times to Joseph Lubin. She was married to Harry Helmsley from 1972 until his death in 1997.
