About Lenny Henry
Before Lenny Henry got on television in 1984, he had done comedy in the social clubs known as working men’s clubs by impersonating a variety of characters.
He started doing stand-up comedy in 1980 and by 1984, he had landed his own sketch comedy show on BBC, “The Lenny Henry Show”.
He is also known as a co-founder of the charity, Comic Relief, alongside scriptwriter Richard Curtis. He has also starred in shows such as “Chef!”, “Tiswas” and “The Magicians”.
Family Life
He was one of seven children born to Jamaican immigrants to Britain, Winifred Louise Henry and Winston Jervis Henry.
He later found out his mother had conceived him after having an affair with Augustus Green, also a Jamaican immigrant.
He was married to actress and comedian, Dawn French, the mother of his daughter, from 1984 to 2010.
Achievements
He was a recipient of the 2016 BAFTA Television: Special Award.
Trivia
He narrated the audiobook for the novel, “Anansi Boys”.
