About Len Bias
Even though Leonard Bias never got to see his NBA dream materialise, his college basketball career was good enough to secure him a place in the history of the sport.
After graduating from the Hyattsville, Maryland-based Northwestern High School, he went to the University of Maryland, where he played for the Terrapins men’s basketball team from 1982 to 1986. He was chosen second overall in the 1986 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, he died before he could play in the league.
Family Life
He and his three siblings were raised by their parents, Dr Lonise and James Bias. Four years after his death, his brother, Jay was shot to death.
Achievements
He is an inductee of the College Basketball Hall of Fame. He was named the ACC’s “Athlete of the Year” in 1986.
Death
He died of a cocaine overdose-induced cardiac arrhythmia on 19 June 1986.
