About Lee Petty
Lee Petty was one of the early stars of NASCAR racing. He participated in the organization’s inaugural race and recorded his first win in 1949. Throughout his career, the American driver won the Grand National Championship three times. He controversially won the 1959 edition of the Daytona 500. A year before that, he won his first NASCAR Convertible Division.
Family
He spent his early years with his parents Judson Ellsworth Petty and Jessie Maude Bell. He was the father of Richard Petty, one of the greatest stock drivers of all-time. He also had a son named Maurice Petty.
Achievements
Petty became a member of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990. He was also inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He was one of the founders of Petty Enterprises, a NASCAR team.
