Early Life in School
The son of Italian immigrants, he was born in Cicero, Illinois. As a student at Miami Jackson Senior High School, he quarterbacked for the school team. While studying at the Florida State University, he showed excellent skills on the football pitch which earned him the record for “most career interceptions.” He earned an MA degree in Administration and Supervision in 1958.
Coaching Career
Upon graduation, he was hired as the quarterback coach for the Maryland Terps. He later recruited player, Darryl Hill, making Hill the first black American recruit for the team.
Awards
He is an honoree of two prestigious awards; The Ronald Reagan Media Award and The National College Football Awards Association.
Personal Life
He tied the knot with Betsy Youngblood and have been together for at least 6 decades. They have 4 children.
