About Lars Magnus Ericsson
With an unquenchable appetite for technology, Lars Magnus Ericsson was driven to start a small telephone company called Ericsson. The company flourished to become one of the biggest brands in the world.
Early Years
Born into a family of farmers in Värmland, Sweden-Norway, he pursued a 6-year apprenticeship at Öller & Co. Telegraph workshop. With the help of a government grant, he travelled to different countries for advanced training in telegraph instruments.
Ericsson and Other Business Ventures
In 1876, in his efforts to start a telephone company, he renovated a former kitchen in Stockholm, Sweden, and turned it into a workshop. The following year witnessed him fixing faulty phones. By 1878, the Swedish inventor and businessman was producing and selling his own telephones under the name L. M. Ericsson & Co. Three years later, they were contracted to supply telephones to the Telephone Association in Gävle, Sweden.
By the early 20th century, subsidiaries were opened in Poland and Russia by Ericsson. The company evolved to be simply Ericsson, a behemoth in the international telephone industry.
