About L. K. Advani
Advani has been one of the longest-serving statesmen in India. After working with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for some time, he joined the now-defunct political party called Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS).
Political positions
Between 1967 and 1970, he worked with the First Delhi Metropolitan Council as its Chairman. The BJS later merged with other political parties to form the Janata Party. Advani was one of the key members of the newly formed party and held many leadership positions in the group.
In 1977, he was appointed as the country’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting. He was first voted into the country’s parliament in 1989. The following year, he became the opposition’s leader in the Lok Sabha.
In 1980, alongside Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he broke away from the Janata Party to create the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He also served in different political positions before becoming India’s Deputy Prime Minister in 2002 and held that position for two years.
Family and Education
He is the son of Gyani Devi and Kishanchand D. Advani. Before the death of his wife Kamla Advani in 2016, they had two kids named Pratibha and Jayant.
At the age of 14, Lal Krishna Advani joined a volunteer organization known as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh where he developed an interest in politics. He graduated from Bombay University’s Government Law College.
Honors
Due to his service to the country, he was rewarded with the Padma Vibhushan.

He published an autobiography in 2008 titled “My Country My Life”.
