About Kurt Welter
Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves award winner and renowned pilot Kurt Welter rose to prominence as one of the most experienced Jet fighter pilots of his time. He was also known to have shot down more than five enemy planes during his aerial combats. Welter served Germany until his death in 1949.
Early Life
The combat pilot was born to Julius Welter and Gertrud. He started out his education in St. Antonius and graduated in 1930. Welter entered the merchant business and enrolled in a vocational school (Berufsschule) in 1934 but moved on to join the military a year later.
Career
Welter later became a flying ace during World War II and fought on the side of Germany as a military aviator. Welter won more than 60 aerial combats during the war and scored more victories inside the jet fighter than anyone else in World War II. The pilot also worked as a flight instructor in 1916 and became a stealth unit aviator in 1943.
Life After war
Welter survived the war and began his trade in sugar manufacturing in 1946. He later became a managing director of Sanitätshaus Green, but his life was cut short in 1949 after he died in a railway accident.
