About Kunishige Kamamoto
The retired Japanese football player is known to most people as the former player of the Japan national team, of which he scored 80 goals out of 84 appearances. The former football player was an outstanding one and during his days as a player, he was named the 1968 Summer Olympics football top scorer.
Personal life and Education
He was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan and the institutions he had his schooling at are Yamashiro High School and Waseda University.
Football Career
Kamamoto started to play football during his days in high school and college. He made his senior debut with the Yanmar Diesel football club. The player spent 17 years of his career playing for the club and he never played for other clubs aside Yanmar Diesel. He started to play for Diesel in 1967 and interestingly, out of making 251 caps for the club, he scored 202 goals.
Apart from the Japan national team, he also played for the Japan U23 national team and scored 8 goals for them.
He retired from football when he was 40 years old; and upon his retirement, he managed clubs such as his former club, Gamba Osaka and the Japanese J3 League football club Fujieda MYFC.
Accomplishments
The Kyoto-born former player is a man of awards. He is a five-time Japan Soccer League Star Ball Award winner. Additionally, he was the recipient of the Japan Soccer League Fighting Spirit Award in 1968.
He was inducted into the Japan Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
