Early Life
The California-based director was the son of Madeline and Octavia Ortega. He came from a humble home as his mother was a waitress and his father a factory worker. He attended Sequoia High School in California.
Career
Kenny Ortega began his career as a choreographer. He worked in many productions such as "Dirty Dancing" and "Pretty in Pink". He also had the opportunity to work with the pop superstar Michael Jackson on the documentary-concert film “Michael Jackson’s This Is It". The show was, however, called off when Michael Jackson suddenly died.
The choreographer has also directed many famous movies, including "Descendants" and "Newsies". The latter film, which was a musical, received eight Tony Award nominations, including for “Best Musical”, “Best Choreography” and Best Original Score”. The director took home two awards that night – “Best Original Score” and “Best Choreography”.
