Nelson was born in 1930 in North Carolina and started performing while in high school.
Career
Nelson’s career started in the 1940s and during this period he performed in the Broadway musical “Seventeen”. He was also a cast of the longest-running Broadway musical “The Fantasticks” which was performed 17,162 times. Nelson also performed in the musicals “Stop the World - I Want to Get Off”, and “Half a Sixpence”.
Nelson performed excellently, acting as a gay man in the film “The Boys in the Band” and continued to take up other roles in numerous television series. His last film was “Nightbreed” released in 1990.
