About Ken Osmond
Ken Osmond was an American actor and police officer who was definitely known more for the former than the latter. His posted acting résumé dates back to 1952, but even prior to that he did some commercial acting. And whereas he remained sporadically active in Hollywood after the 1960s, his highly-celebrated signature role from 1957 to 1963 was his portrayal of Eddie Haskell on the classic American sitcom “Leave It to Beaver”.
Family Life
His older brother, Dayton Osmond, has also done some professional acting.
He married a lady named Sandra Purdy in 1969. And they had two children named Eric and Christian Osmond.
Achievements
In 1999, "TV Guide" placed Eddie Haskell within the top half of their listing of the “50 Greatest TV Characters of All Time”.
In 1987 Osmond also received the Former Child Star “Lifetime Achievement” Award via the Young Artist Foundation for his portrayal of the character.
Trivia
He portrayed Eddie Haskell on 96 episodes of “Leave It to Beaver”. And he did so effectively that he was typecast. In fact, the main reason he did not opt to seriously continue his acting career afterwards is because he could not escape the shadow of Eddie Haskell, which is a roundabout testament to his acting skills.
However, Osmond did land one other long-term, albeit related, acting gig, being featured on 101 episodes of “The New Leave It to Beaver” from 1983-1989.
In 2014 a book he co-authored, “Eddie: The Life and Times of America’s Preeminent Bad Boy”, was published.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve concurrently while filming “Leave It to Beaver”.
It was his mother who first enrolled him in acting classes and had been taking him to acting auditions since he was four years old.
He suffered numerous injuries working for the LAPD and on one occasion was even shot. In fact, he retired early from the job, after 18 years, due to injuries sustained.
