About Keith Emerson
Keith Emerson, originally named Keith Noel Emerson, was undoubtedly one of the most excellent English rock musicians. He was famously known for his incredible keyboard and songwriting talents, as well as his various successes with rock bands such as “the Nice” and “Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP)”.
Background & Education
The rock star was born in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. His father taught him the piano from an early age until he was 7, when a private music teacher was hired to teach him music. He was educated at the West Tarring School.
Music Career Highlights
In the 1960s, he enjoyed international fame as a band member of “the Nice”. However, he left the band in 1970 and co-founded “Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP)”.
“ELP” earned great commercial success in the 1970s, becoming arguably the best progressive rock band of the decade. He wrote and arranged many songs on the band’s albums. Unfortunately, “ELP” broke up in the early 1970s and he moved on as a solo artist.
He eventually formed the bands “3” and “Emerson, Lake & Powell”. In the 1990s and 2002, he reunited with his previous band “ELP”. They recorded two other albums and embarked on several tours.
Death
Having suffered from alcoholism and depression for decades, he shot himself in the head on March 11, 2016, and died at age 71.
