Family Life
She is the only child of Gertrude Kathryn and Ronald Elliot Bigelow. She married fellow director James Cameron in 1989. The marriage ended in1991.
Awards
Her 2008 film The Hurt Locker made her the first female film director to win the Academy Award for Best Director, the BAFTA Award for Best Direction, the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing and the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Director. She also became the first woman to win the Saturn Award for Best Direction with her 1995 film Strange Days.
