About Katherine Mansfield
Katherine Mansfield was a New Zealand-born British writer, journalist and essayist. She is regarded as one of the literary modernism movement’s most influential authors and has had her work published in more than 25 languages. She is known best for her short stories, many of which were published in the magazines “Rhythm” and “The Blue Review”. Her popular stories include “Daughters of the Late Colonel”, “The Voyage”, “The Stranger” and “At the Bay”.
Personal Life
Her father, Harold Beauchamp was a successful businessman. Her mother’s maiden name was Annie Burnell Dyer. She was officially married to George Bowden from 1908 to 1917 but she had actually ran away from her matrimonial home on the wedding night. In 1918, she married English writer John Middleton Murry, with whom she had been in a relationship since 1911. She was previously involved in lesbian relationships with Maata Mahupuku, a Maori woman and Edith Kathleen Bendall.
Death
She died on January 9, 1923, from pulmonary haemorrhage which was brought on by her five-year battle with tuberculosis.
